The New Jersey Judiciary is seeking an experienced Information Technology professional for a challenging position as Manager of IT Infrastructure & Operations Support. As a key member of our management team, you will work collaboratively with partners across all organizational areas to develop strategies, define policies, and enforce standards that govern the expansion and operations of our complex statewide mainframe, server, and network environments. You will apply your solid expertise in large-scale n-tier data center and network continuity & disaster recovery planning and lead a rigorous program of testing and exercise of those plans. This executive will drive our objective for long-term stability and intelligent infrastructure growth including capacity planning, lifecycle management, asset management, and the analysis and presentation of financial data to assess and recommend significant IT investment decisions. Your ability to evaluate ROI, IRR, and NPV are important along with the skills to create and sustain accurate multi-year budget projections. The successful candidate will also be familiar with National Electric Code and NFPA Fire Code and have a thorough understanding of operationally critical n+1 data center supporting structure including electrical feed & distribution, chilled water systems, environmental conditioning, standby power systems, and best practices for their monitoring and maintenance. This individual will also assume responsibility for related ancillary support services that enable a consolidated focus on infrastructure planning, management, and support. Excellent leadership and communications skills are necessary for success in this position as is strong project management, problem-solving, and analytical ability.

Example of Duties

Perform strategic infrastructure and lifecycle planning in alignment with technology and business objectives
Develop policies and protocols for infrastructure and asset management
Develop comprehensive IT business continuity and data center/mainframe/network disaster recovery plans
Plan and manage large-scale disaster recovery tests and exercises
Establish procedures and controls to manage software license compliance on all processing platforms
Manage IT hardware assets including statewide receiving, warehousing, and distribution of equipment
Review and approve all statewide IT product/service purchases to ensure standards and policy compliance
Conduct financial and cost/benefit analysis to assess and recommend major technology investments
Develop and report on IT infrastructure related budget forecasts for 5-to-7 year planning windows
Coordinate and respond to any internal or outside audits of technology infrastructure spending
Ensure compliance with all internal, statutory, and regulatory requirements for protection of confidential data
Research and make recommendations on hardware/software/network products and services


Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree and seven (7) years of managerial experience, which shall have included responsibility for the management of budgets, staff, and administrative operations; development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures; and responsibility for analyzing, designing, testing and implementation to accomplish project objectives; network administration in a personal computer or local/wide area network environment; telecommunications facilities and services; database administration; system analysis; and/or software applications; and five (5) years of which shall have included supervision of professional staff.

Substitution: Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute additional professional experience on a year for year basis with one (1) year of such experience being equal to thirty (30) semester hour credits. An Associate’s Degree and two (2) years of additional professional experience may be substituted for the required Bachelor’s Degree. A Master’s Degree may be substituted for one (1) year of experience as indicated above. A Law Degree may be substituted for two (2) years of experience as indicated above.

Driver’s License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.

*Minimum Salary Note: For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary or up to 15% above minimum based on experience, not to exceed the maximum of the range or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater.

The New Jersey Judiciary consists of: the Supreme Court, the Superior Court including the Appellate Division and the Trial Court of the 15 vicinages in New Jersey, the Tax Court and the Municipal Court System. The Administrative Office of the Courts provides technical assistance, operational support, training, research and development, budget and personnel coordination, and development and operation of information systems for the Courts of New Jersey.

Scientific Application Developer

Position Summary Princeton University is seeking one or more Scientific Application Developers/Software Engineers to work with the High Energy Experiment group in the Physics Department. High Energy Physics (HEP) focuses on understanding the elementary particles that are the fundamental constituents of matter and their interactions. Obtaining scientific results from these high energy physics experiments requires complex software and computing systems, developed by international teams of researchers over the course of decades. The scientific data sets obtained by these experiments are among the largest in the world.

A successful candidate will play a key role in developing the software required to meet the future data intensive and computational challenges of high energy physics experiments. Projects will vary over time and range from focused R&D on processors and other technologies to development of production software codes for use by thousands of physicists.

Successful candidates will also collaborate with the CMS experiment ( at the Large Hadron Collider at the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN) in Geneva, Switzerland and the DIANA/HEP project team ( The CMS experiment, one of two general purpose detectors at the LHC, is currently investigating upgrades to its computing system to support an ambitious research plan extending through the 2020′s. The DIANA/HEP project aims to develop state-of-the-art data analysis tools for experiments which acquire, reduce, and analyze petabytes of data.

Applicants from multiple backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Candidates from both a traditional HEP background (and a strong software focus) as well as those from the computer or data science communities (with an interest in HEP research topics) will be considered.

These positions could be based at Princeton, at CERN, in Geneva, Switzerland, or at Fermilab, near Chicago, subject to negotiation with the principal investigator. Occasional travel to conferences and workshops will be required. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a 2nd year subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

Essential Qualifications – Academic preparation:
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Experimental Particle Physics or a closely related field, or
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, or
- Equivalent work experience with data intensive and/or scientific software applications
- Strong programming skills, in particular with C++ and Python on Linux
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
The final candidate will be required to complete a background check successfully.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience with parallel programming environments and technologies
- Knowledge of current and future high-performance computing processors and accelerators
- Experience with large-scale scientific software applications,
in particular involving or contributing to one or more of the following:
- Analysis of large datasets
- Open source machine learning or data mining software toolkits,
and/or the scientific python ecosystem
- Monte Carlo detector simulations
- Pattern recognition techniques relevant for high energy and
nuclear physics detectors
- Experience working in large, international scientific or
open-source software collaborations and delivering software in
such contexts
